Cost of living crisis the focus of new committee

Australians are facing a cost of living crisis under Labor. But the Government doesn’t have a plan to help them.

That is why the Coalition voted to establish the Select Committee on the Cost of Living to inquire into and report on the causes of cost of living pressures, how they are impacting Australians, and develop sensible solutions to address this crisis. 

Shadow Minister for Finance and Chair of the Cost of Living Committee, Senator Jane Hume, called on Australians to put their experiences to the Committee, which is open for submissions.

The Committee will call stakeholders and the public to participate in public hearings, and travel to communities right around the country to listen to Australians before releasing its report and recommendations to the Senate.

“Despite being the number one issue facing Australians, the Labor Government has run up the white flag on finding a solution to bring down inflation and reduce cost of living pressures,” said Senator Hume.

“Labor has delivered a high taxing, high spending Budget that will only make the cost of living crisis worse for Australians.”

“I call on individuals, organisations, and businesses to make submissions to the inquiry so we can even better understand where the cost of living pressure points are.”

“The Cost of Living Committee will hear directly from the public about how cost of living pressures are affecting them. Through this process, the Committee will seek to recommend practical solutions to address the cost of living without adding to inflation.”

“I look forward to working with the other members of the Committee. This Committee will work to put forward real solutions to address this crisis.”
